I’ve been advertising my new website look to friends for the past couple of days so if you’re one of those who got my spam and came to check it out… surprise! Why it still looks the same!See, I had redesigned the hub site to be like an MMO news and opinions portal (you can take a peek here) because that’s what I’m most interested in, but looking at my site statistics for the past 6 months, it occurred to me that that’s not my audience at all. By writing little dinky guides that no one else has bothered to write about, I’ve been getting a steady flow of traffic from Nintendo DS fans! I can only guess at the demographics but I’m thinking that I have a solid pre-teen following.
So, back to square one for me. I know that most of my blog readers are MMO gamers so I’ll still cater to that, but now I kinda feel obliged to do something special for my little friends.
Bear with me a little longer…

I like the idea of a new layout, but I feel the preview you posted felt a bit cluttered. As for your audience, well, I play all sorts of games. I love them all, yet I’m not a DS gamer. Honestly, I just read to see if you’ve tried any new games, stumbled upon some “gems,” or have embarked on any interesting travels. Your targeted audience is obviously girl gamers; why don’t you do something to cater and appeal to them more?
Thanks for the feedback, E. I’m still kicking around some ideas on the redesign but I’m beginning to think I’m better off without a hub. Just need to organize the sections better so the contents are all visible from one page. It’s a bigger job because I’ll have to move database items so who knows if it will ever get done haha. To be honest, I really don’t have a “target audience” since I’m not doing this for money. It’s a hobby and an extension of my gaming self that I like to share with others. If I happen to find little niches (like my DS readers or in the past, my LOTRO readers), then I’ll cultivate them a little more. Otherwise, I’ll just keep writing what strikes my fancy.
Personally, I would just be satisfied with hearing stories from the normal life of a female gamer. “What happened on the raid today? Does the outside world know you’re a gamer or do you keep it secret? How do people treat you differently when they find out you are a girl? Do you tell them you’re a girl? What do you like roleplaying?”…etc, etc. Not to sound creepy or anything, but I find that interesting; I find you interesting. I don’t think anyone would read your blog if they didn’t.
I know you are a girl but we have friendship that started from CoH over five years ago
Personally from another girl gamer perspective I think that telling people that you are a girl from the get go does not really do anything, some might think it is cool but overall it still comes down to skill. If you are a girl and really good at playing and knowledge that might “up” your status a bit but how you play the game still is the most important. The only time being a girl comes into play is when you PUG a group get on the vent server..and then the comments flow a lot more freely
I like the new format! See ya online : )
